sahara, 2006cultures in conflict – across the desertthe teamNine men and women – Christians, Jews and Muslims from Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Israel, the Palestinian Authority, the former Soviet Union and the USA – came together in mind, body and spirit to cross the Sahara desert and the territories of five different countries and cultures.
the routeOn March 7th, 2006 the team embarked on a four-week journey from Jerusalem to Tripoli, crossing some of the harshest terrain on the planet. Travelling through Israel, the Palestinian Territory, Jordan and Egypt, the team reached the Libyan boarder where the Israelis in the group were denied entry. The team turned back to Egypt and decided to end their journey on Mount Sinai, a place where Christians, Muslims and Jews all have historical claims.
the challengeThe participants confronted physical and spiritual terrain that has witnessed conflict throughout the centuries. They tested themselves against the challenges of their surroundings and their own conflicting relationships.
news coverageA news broadcasting team travelled on the journey and transmitted daily coverage to international TV, print media, radio and the Internet.
documentaryAn professional documentary team filmed the journey across the Sahara and a documentary film is being produced for distribution to international TV and film festivals. |
